Hello, and welcome to better sleep!

I am Karla Jassoy, your sleep consultant in Toronto and the founder of The Sleep Consultant That Could. For over 15 years, I have supported families on their journey of parenting and teaching their children to sleep. As a mother of three, I learned that being the best we can be for our kids starts with feeling our best. As a leading sleep consultant in Toronto, I specialize in helping children, including those with special needs, achieve restful nights and healthy sleep patterns.

My sleep support services come highly recommended by pediatricians in Toronto, and I take pride in my ability to help improve sleep problems in children of all ages. With my expert guidance and a tailored approach, I provide parents with the knowledge and tools to create a stress-free sleep routine that respects their parenting preferences.

The first years of your baby’s life don’t have to be frustrating, exhausting or isolating. With the proper support, customized to your needs and goals, sleep training can help you regain control of your nights so you can be at your best the next day and deal with the important stuff, like celebrating your baby’s milestones.

More About Karla

Karla is a Sleep Sense Certified Child Sleep Consultant in Toronto and is the founder of The Sleep Consultant that Could, The Doula that Could and The Nanny That Could. She has been personally trained by Dana Obleman, the creator of The Sleep Sense™ Program, whose methods have been used worldwide by more than 57,000 families to quickly and easily solve their children’s sleep problems. Karla is certified by Dana Obleman to teach the Sleep Sense™ Method.

Karla is passionate about the beautiful process, from pregnancy to parenting and all the challenges in between. As a mother of three children and a full-time working mom, Karla’s inspiration to help families navigate the rollercoaster of parenting was born from her own frustrations as a mother asked herself one question:

What would put a smile on her face, even when she woke up to the daily mess and busy day ahead? Well, a good night’s sleep would help for sure! But the answer was not that simple. It meant a different thing every day, and so she realized that there is no such thing as having everything under control, so instead, she took every tiny perfect moment, praised it, made a happy dance and stored it in her treasure chest, for later years to remember and pull it out to share it with other moms and dads that might need a bit of help. And off she went on her day, saying to herself I think I could….

Motherhood taught Karla that there is no need to play Wonderwoman, “we are not here to collect medals or trophies,” she said, and that it is ok to seek help when we cannot figure it out.” Teaching her babies to sleep was one of those things. It took love, patience and the suitable gentle method each needed. “When you have something good going on, you want to share it,” she said, and so, The Sleep Consultant that Could was born.

Drawing from her experience and professional career as a doula and sleep consultant, Karla provides families with simple, step-by-step solutions that focus on developing healthy sleep habits, consistency and routines that respect each child’s personality, age and family dynamic.

My Sleep Philosophy

I have been working with children and families for over 15 years. Different lifestyles, parenting methods, routines etc, but one thing was always true: they wanted the best for their children.

When I work with a family, I make it my goal to guide them and support them while respecting their own philosophies because there is NO right or wrong, because there are no magical recipes to make a baby sleep through the night or take good naps but because a family needs help and because I genuinely care.

Every child is perfect and unique, and each child AND family deserves good sleep; my sleep philosophy listens to my heart as a mother and as a consultant, but most of all, it listens to you.

My approach to helping you teach your little one the necessary skills to improve their sleep starts with a one-on-one consultation. During this consultation, which lasts between one and one and a half hour, I will get to know you and your family. This will include getting a sense of who you are, your child’s personality, and your family’s sleep goals. This will help me identify what is working and what is not so that I can provide the best advice for you and your family.

When it comes to helping your child get a good night’s sleep, I understand that every child is different and that you know your child best. That’s why I’m here to provide you with a step-by-step plan that allows you to make choices that are right for your child. This plan is easy to follow and will help you customize your child’s sleep plan to meet their individual needs. With this plan, you can ensure your child gets the sleep they need for restful nights and happier days.

Measuring success with sleep training involves setting expectations. Although it has happened, I don’t expect your child to sleep 12 uninterrupted hours on the first night! Instead, we will measure success by the gradual progress your child makes in learning how to fall asleep and stay asleep independently. Achieving small goals such as staying in bed for a certain amount of time (when they haven’t done it ever before), falling asleep without your help, and sleeping through the night are all signs of progress. It is important to celebrate these accomplishments and each milestone as your child moves closer to successful sleep training.

What about the tears?

I’m so glad that you’re here asking about crying it out! It’s an important topic to address, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to explain my program. I always make sure to let parents know that some protest from their child is expected when changing their sleep habits. But don’t worry – I will never ask you to leave your child to cry alone or to ignore their cries (see cry-it-out methods). Based on what you know about your child, I will develop a sleep plan that you feel comfortable with.
