Last night’s sleep was far from ideal. I only got 6h 8m of sleep out of 8h 15m in bed. I also usually go to sleep fairly quickly after lying down, but last night it took me a couple of hours before I finally went to sleep.
I got a little hungry before bed and ate a small bowl of homemade chia seed chocolate pudding. I don’t think that helped.
I’m testing different supplements before I go to bed and last night I tried 1,000mg of Pure Encapsulations L-Tryptophan and 3mg Pure Encapsulations Melatonin. I’ve been playing with this combo on and off for a few weeks, but haven’t noticed any significant improvement in any of my subjective or objective sleep metrics.
One of the markers that is consistently low for me with Oura ring measurements is my REM sleep. Last night I only had 31m of REM and most of that was recorded after 5am. This is something I’ll be working to improve. I’d like to get to the point where I’m getting 2+ hours of deep and REM sleep at night.
Tonight I’ll change my pre-bed supplement stack and aim to not eat anything after 6pm. I also plan to wear blue light blocking glasses after 6pm which I haven’t done in a while.
