Sleep Tracker – 8/22/2024

Through tracking my sleep every night, I realized that I have a pattern of waking up around 4:00am and struggling to continue sleeping. But I usually stay in bed and go in and out of sleep until my usual wake up time around 6:30am.

But I decided to honor the impulse this morning and got out of bed around 4:30am. I thought that maybe I’d need a nap at some point in the day to recover my lost sleep time, but I’ve felt reasonably strong today and haven’t needed a nap. So if I continue to wake early with relative alertness, I’ll get up and start my day.

Maybe this is a process of aligning with my own natural circadian rhythm and doing so will improve my energy during the day and sleep during the night.

I only got 5h 56m of sleep last night, but my efficiency was in the range of my highest levels at 80%. I was under an hour on both deep and REM so definitely want to see these numbers get consistently higher. My latency was just 4m so I went to sleep easily last night.

The primary new supplement I’m experimenting with at the moment is CBD. I took 3 drops last night. However, I chatted with the founder of Element Health where I get my CBD today, and he let me know that optimal dosing for sleep starts at 1/2 a dropper full which is 15 drops, and that some people like popular health leader and biohacker Ben Greenfield get their best sleep results at 2 droppers full which would be around 60 drops. So the doses I’ve tried in the last few days are very low based on this.

Tonight I’ll increase my dose of CBD to 15 drops and experiment at the higher levels in the coming days.
