How to Sleep With a Cough or a Cold

When you have a cough, you might notice it interfering with your sleep. Thankfully, there are actions you can take to help yourself obtain the sleep you need to feel better.

  • There is nothing worse than trying to sleep when you are constantly coughing or you canโ€™t breathe through your nose. These are great ideas that you have given, although sometimes taking a cough mixture makes me cough even worse than before. I definitely find honey does help to soothe the throat, especially if combined with ginger and warm Rooibos tea.

When my mom-in-law gets a bad cough, which is quite often lately, she finds sleeping upright helps her to stop coughing and get some, although poor quality, sleep.

  • I rarely have a cold, but when I do, drink lots of lemon, honey and ginger.  My colds normally last for 3 days and even if I have the flu it lasts for the same amount of time.

I normally keep well hydrated by drinking up to 2 litres of green juice daily comprising of apple, cucumber, parsley and carrot juice.

    So far so good!

  • This post is a real lifesaver for anyone dealing with that annoying nighttime cough during a cold. I appreciate the practical suggestions like using honey, cough medicine, nasal decongestants, warm liquids, elevating the head, and using a humidifier. The emphasis on natural remedies, like honey, and the caution about overusing cough medicine are particularly helpful. Thank you for a very helpful post.
