Why you might feel aches, pain, and discomfort when living with chronic insomnia
If chronic insomnia doesn’t cause any health problem, why do you feel aches, pains, and other unpleasant sensations after a bad night of sleep?
First, let me be clear that although chronic insomnia definitely has a negative effect on your quality of life, there is no evidence that it causes any health problem.

So, if you feel aches and pains after a bad night of sleep, your insomnia is unlikely to be to blame. Instead, it’s more likely that you are associating any unpleasant sensation with your insomnia. This assumption, although usually incorrect, is perfectly natural!
When we have insomnia we are also more likely to spend time inactive — and this leads to more self-monitoring so we might pick up on niggles and discomforts that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
The best way to get better when you live with chronic insomnia is to go through a course of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). More on CBT-I can be found in these videos:
