Why the process of getting rid of your chronic insomnia is like turning a giant flywheel

The process of tackling chronic insomnia is similar to turning a giant flywheel. At first, it can seem intimidating — you push and push at the flywheel but it doesn’t budge an inch. However, with persistent effort and focus on the process of pushing, the flywheel will start to turn.

As the flywheel turns, it gains momentum and the process becomes a little easier. However, then you might slip and the flywheel slows or even stops turning. Recognizing the effort involved in getting that flywheel back up to speed can be hard — but if you try to change direction or try a new technique, progress will be harder and you risk undoing all the effort you put in up to that point.

Progress can often be slow and difficult — but if you see the process as being similar to turning a giant flywheel; if you are determined, persistent, and consistent, you will make progress. Focus on the process of moving that flywheel rather than monitoring for results and you will reach your goal.

If you build enough momentum, you will reach that point of breakthrough.
