Why it's important to implement CBT-I techniques sooner rather than later when living with insomnia
The sooner you take steps to improve your sleep when living with insomnia, the better. If you’ve only been experiencing sleep disruption for a few nights or a few weeks, usually the best thing you can do is nothing — don’t try to compensate for lost sleep and don’t spend time thinking about, worrying about, or researching sleep. It’s more likely than not that your sleep will recover by itself.

If, however, you have been living with insomnia for months, years, or even decades, it’s important to take the right steps to improve your sleep as soon as possible. That’s because the sooner you take constructive steps to improve your sleep, the easier it usually is to get your sleep back on track.
The best treatment option for chronic insomnia is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) techniques. Although I have worked with clients who had insomnia for decades and managed to get their sleep back on track using CBT-I techniques, I typically find that those who implement CBT-I techniques sooner tend to make progress quicker than those who have been struggling with insomnia for long periods of time.

So, if you haven’t tried CBT-I then I encourage you to research the techniques and implement them without delay. CBT-I is more effective than any other treatment for chronic insomnia. It is more effective than sleeping pills, it is more effective than any supplement, and it is more effective than a mattress, pillow, sound machine, or any other product or potion you have likely come across.
The sooner you take action, the sooner you can start enjoying better sleep. The longer you wait, the harder it can be to get past your insomnia.
