When insomnia makes nights difficult, it’s easy to feel like you’re not making progress. Progress doesn’t always show up in the number of hours you sleep — it can show up in how you respond to difficult nights and how you live your days.
Progress might mean releasing the pressure to “perform sleep,” noticing when you’re caught in the struggle, or choosing actions that help you live your life even after a rough night.
By looking at progress in these ways, you can reduce the struggle that comes from trying to control sleep and remind yourself that your actions — not your sleep — give you the freedom to live the life you want.
