The quality of your day isn’t entirely dependent on the quality of your sleep

When you’re awake with chronic insomnia, it’s so easy to worry about how bad the next day is going to be — after all, without a good night of sleep, how on earth are you going to have a good day?

When you dig a bit deeper, you will often notice that — even after an awful night of sleep — you experience a few positive moments during the day. You might even have a good day after a bad night of sleep.

Similarly, have there ever been any times when you’ve had a great night of sleep but a bad day?

All these experiences are evidence that the quality of your day isn’t entirely dependent on the quality of your sleep. Being aware of this can really help reduce any sleep-related worry and anxiety you experience when you wake during the night and help you avoid compensatory behaviors that can actually make your sleep worse.
