If you want to sleep in your own bed, your own bed should be the only place you sleep
Many people with chronic insomnia have learned to associate their own bed with wakefulness, worry, and anxiety. This is one reason why sleep can seem almost impossible and lead to nights of tossing and turning and frustration.
Sometimes, the only solution seems to be to get out of bed and sleep in another room, on the couch, or maybe on a recliner. Unfortunately, this is not a long-term solution (unless your ultimate goal is to sleep in another room, on the couch, or in a recliner forever).
If your ultimate goal is to sleep well in your own bed, the only place you should be sleeping is in your own bed. Any time you sleep elsewhere, you pair that environment with sleep — and this is a missed opportunity to make your own bed a strong trigger for sleep.
