If you have chronic insomnia, you do not have to give up coffee!
I am often asked by people with insomnia if they have to stop drinking coffee, or when they can start enjoying coffee again. The fact is, it’s perfectly OK to drink coffee if you have insomnia!
Drinking moderate amounts of coffee (or other caffeinated drinks) is not going to have much of an effect on your sleep — especially if you only drink coffee in the morning or early afternoon.
Caffeine can actually be quite helpful if you have insomnia since one or two cups first thing in the morning can help shake off any morning fatigue and help you get your day started.
For coffee lovers (like myself), drinking coffee is one of life’s pleasures. Whenever you give up a pleasurable activity because of your insomnia, you feed your insomnia and give it more power over your life (related video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJQ-pAs2wTM).
Live your life and enjoy your life, regardless of your insomnia. If you enjoy drinking coffee, have a cup or two every day and show your insomnia who’s boss!
