If nothing works for your chronic insomnia, try to focus on practicing rather than achieving
If you have chronic insomnia, I have no doubt that you have tried many things to improve your sleep — and that you found most (if not all) of them “didn’t work”.
Although many things we do to improve our sleep will never work (for example sleep hygiene or taking melatonin supplements), sometimes we can give up too early on techniques that definitely do work because we focus on achievement rather than practice.

If sleep hygiene didn’t work for your chronic insomnia, that’s completely normal and to be expected: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxcEEmZTN2Q
When we make the achievement of results our focus, we self-monitor for results (which can make sleep more difficult) and we can easily become disappointed if improvements do not occur as quickly or as consistently as we want them to.
This can lead to more sleep-related worry and anxiety and lead us to conclude that long-term techniques with overwhelming evidence to support their effectiveness (such as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia techniques) aren’t working.
We might then continue on a journey of endless experimentation and this further perpetuates insomnia.

So, if you are implementing evidence-based techniques (such as CBT-I techniques) but you are feeling disappointed with your results so far, try shifting your focus to one of practice rather than achievement.
Place all your efforts and attention on implementing the techniques you are learning (rather than on achievement) and the results will come.
