How to reduce high levels of fatigue when you have chronic insomnia
A high level of fatigue is one of the biggest symptoms associated with chronic insomnia but fatigue is influenced more by inactivity that it is by a lack of sleep.
In other words, fatigue is caused primarily by inactivity rather than sleep deprivation alone. This can be a real problem because when you live with chronic insomnia, you have a strong urge to conserve energy and be as inactive as possible.
(Note that fatigue is not the same as sleepiness — more on that in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KwrOcyUBt0)
Unfortunately, being inactive only makes fatigue worse.
The best way to reduce fatigue is to get active. This doesn’t mean you need to hit the gym on a daily basis or go for 30-minute jogs. It simply means that you should try to engage in one or two activities on a daily basis to keep yourself active.
Being active can help reduce fatigue, distract you from thinking about your sleep, and make it a little bit easier to live with chronic insomnia.
PS: Yes, you may have heard a cameo from my cat during this video!
