How relaxation improves sleep (and why relaxation may not have worked for you in the past)

Many people with insomnia have tried relaxation techniques as a way to improve sleep with varying levels of success. Relaxation is a skill that takes practice, and the ultimate goal of relaxation is relaxation — not sleep!

Relaxation techniques are usually included in a course of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is the best way to improve your sleep over the long-term.
