Why alcohol does not improve sleep and is not a solution for insomnia
If you drink alcohol at night to help you sleep, there are some things you should know. Not only does relying on alcohol to help you sleep increase your risk of alcohol dependence, but alcohol actually reduces sleep quality.
Alcohol can make it easier to fall asleep, but it has a negative effect on sleep quality. In other words, alcohol actually makes your sleep worse. A far more appropriate long-term solution to insomnia is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).
