What you should know about waking during the night

It’s quite normal to wake during the night — many people experience nighttime awakenings but simply don’t remember them.

Implementing cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) techniques can increase sleep efficiency, consolidate sleep, and lead to less time awake during the night.

Note: If you wake regularly during the night gasping for breath, or you are told you regularly snore very loudly or even that you stop breathing during the night, you should seek medical advice since these are typical symptoms of sleep apnea.
