The best relaxation techniques for sleep when you have chronic insomnia

There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ relaxation technique because we are all different, and the goal of any relaxation technique is relaxation — not sleep. As soon as you make sleep the goal of any relaxation technique, you make sleep more difficult.

It’s worth taking the time to experiment with a few different relaxation techniques during the day for a few weeks so you can find a technique (or a few techniques) that will help you relax.

Practicing during the day helps you develop your relaxation skills (because relaxation is a skill that requires practice to be effective) and will help you resist the temptation to use relaxation as a technique to help you sleep.
