There are a LOT of supplements on the market that not only won’t help you sleep, but could actually be causing long-term damage to your health. So in this video I’m going to walk through what those are and tell you why you need to avoid them!
Now I want to be clear: the RIGHT KIND of supplementation can definitely help your sleep, but the first question you need to ask yourself is: do you even need supplements? I tell all my patients, before taking any kind of supplement for any reason, get your blood work done.
Remember, the vitamins or minerals in supplements themselves do not help you sleep. Instead what is happening is that the LACK of a particular vitamin or mineral is making it harder to sleep because this lack is effecting a particular aspect of the sleep process . So by supplementing that vitamin, and removing that deficiency, then you sleep better.
For example, if you have sufficient magnesium levels, taking a magnesium supplement isn’t going to do anything. But if you are magnesium deficient, that supplement could be exactly what you need to get a better night’s rest.
Blood work will tell you exactly what your body needs for sleep, in several key areas, including:
Vitamin D, Iron, Magnesium, and Melatonin
These are the big four. If your body is sufficient in these areas, that’ll be 90% of your success. Not only that, it will help you understand specifically how much supplementation you need!
